Chief designer Shinichi Abe and his Lexus Hybrid SUV

Lexus is a revolutionary brand that is paving the way for innovative solutions to the current energy crisis. Lexus was the first automaker to produce not only a hybrid SUV but also the first luxury hybrid sedan all thanks to automobile designer Shinichi Abe. Shinichi Abe took on the challenge of creating the first Lexus hybrid vehicle and decided the first project would be to design a luxury hybrid SUV. The result of this was the Lexus RX 400h. The Lexus hybrid SUV combined fuel-efficiency with electric-only power at low speeds, and a combination of gas and electric motor at higher speeds. Abe hopes, someday soon, all Lexus models will be available in an electric option. In Chicago, used Lexus GX models are highly popular, so many are eager for the availability of more SUV’s like this model with a hybrid function.

After the success of Abe’s Lexus RX 400h he continued to tackle the new challenge of creating luxury hybrid cars that could reach the top speeds expected of Lexus by car drivers. As a result Abe’s development team created a transaxle with a long, small motor with a two stage speed reduction device. Thanks to this project, as locally as Chicago, Lexus GS and other models are a viable hybrid option.

Shinichi Abe was faced with the challenge of producing hybrid vehicles that embodied the ideals and quality of a luxury Lexus vehicle and he conquered it. Abe and his team created several hybrid versions of Lexus models that have smooth acceleration and fulfill the expectation of Lexus drivers. Even with his success, Abe continues to strive to make even more Lexus hybrid vehicles to give Lexus drivers the hybrid option with every Lexus model.
