Lexus lover? Miami was the place to be

February 28, 2010 Featured No Comments

The weather-friendly setting was Miami in mid-winter, there were events and parties planned during the week and through the weekend, there was an abundance of glitz and Lexus models on display, and everyone had a great time.  No, we’re not talking about the Super Bowl festivities (although those were supposedly great, too).  We are talking about the Florida Lexus events that took place the last weekend of January, which surely provided a welcome respite from winter for anybody coming from the Midwest or Northeast. No doubt some clever folks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago used Lexus as an excuse to escape the cold, ice, and snow.

To get the party started then, on Wednesday there was a test driving event at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Here, for those lucky enough to attend, there were opportunities to take some of Lexus’s finest offerings for a spin around the track: the IS350, F-Sport IS350, and the IS-F, among other models. The Lexus F-Sport enhanced vehicles are equipped with racing-inspired components that provide more muscle, better maneuverability, and a sportier appearance than the stock models, so at this event drivers were able to evaluate and actually feel the telling differences.  The other big attraction was the IS-F, and to provide a context for the kind of power this bad machine has, the enhanced F-Sport IS350 has a 3.5 liter V-6 engine while the IS-F has a 5.0 liter V-8.  The IS-F model really had Miami buzzing.

Onto the weekend.  There were events both Saturday and Sunday as part of the FL2K10 Florida Lexus-Supra Winter Mega Meet.  This was the event’s 5th year and by all accounts each year has built upon prior successes to be even bigger and better.  The 2K10 version was no exception.  Saturday was the day of the DYNO shoot out at South Florida Turbo, with the Dyno type being Dyno Dynamics.  $35 got you 3 pulls along with other giveaways and prizes.  Following this, at night, the party moved to South Beach and its wild clubs and parties, and then, allowing for ample recovery time, the final event of the weekend was held in the early afternoon on Sunday at the JM Lexus dealership.  This was more of an industry-oriented, behind-the-scenes event with sponsors on hand and dealership tours available, but no less interesting for those in attendance.

All in all it was a great weekend in the Florida sunshine for Lexus enthusiasts, especially for the New York Lexus ES and Chicago used Lexus LS drivers or whatever Lexus model those folks who made the trip from the north rode in on.
