Lexus RX 450h a Dream to Drive at Night

February 18, 2010 Featured No Comments

When you look at promotional pictures of new and upcoming vehicles, they’re almost always photographed during the day. They’re taken either in an SUV somewhere in the middle of the desert, or undulating around curvy mountain roads with vibrant sunlight streaming through trees. But how often do we see these photographs taken at night? We don’t, because darkness doesn’t do the exterior of a vehicle enough justice. People look at sexy new cars and say “Ain’t she a beaut?” but they say it from a distance. At night, from a distance just doesn’t cut it.

But let’s face it—all of us do a ton of driving at night, and when we’re making long journeys on a darkened highway, or cruising home from work through snow when it gets dark at 4:30 in the deep of winter, we don’t care what the exterior of our cars look like. We care about how the vehicle performs, and the new Lexus RX 450h performs very, very well.

In Chicago, used Lexus dealers are hoping to load up on more new vehicles this season, due largely in part to these nighttime features that the RX 450h provides. For one, the front LED lights provide great coverage, even in snow, and the high-beams are completely automatic. There’s a sensor in this car that determines the ambient light coming off the lights of oncoming traffic, and the brightness automatically adjusts accordingly. No more getting flashed by blinding light because you’ve forgotten to turn off your brights, and perhaps even better, no more destroying the retinas of your fellow drivers.

Perhaps the most convenient of the night-time add-ons is the new Heads Up Display, or HUD, which essentially replaces the need for a speedometer by projecting your car’s speed low on the inside of the windshield. But that’s not all it does. That particular technology has been around for quite a long time. The HUD feature also has an LED projection of the navigation system’s turn-by-turn directions. Instead of having to take your eyes off the road to check your next turn, your Lexus can put the information you need right in the line of sight. How much easier is that?

In Chicago, used Lexus GX vehicles certainly have their advantages, but it’s this new RX 450h that takes a vehicle that can look good in the promotional images and make the evening driving experience completely enjoyable. Day or night, this is a great automobile.
