Lexus takes the luxury cars sales lead over Mercedes
When most people think of a luxury vehicle they think Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes. Well last month Lexus topped them all in sales rising 31% from last month. Lexus sold 22,216 vehicles in the U.S. in May, pushing its year-to-date total to 90,098 cars and trucks, up 23 percent from the same months last year.
Mercedes sales rose 27 percent to 19,184 in May and gained 26 percent to 88,010 so far this year. One of the biggest reasons sales jumped last month is because of incentive programs. Lexus offered discounted leases and reduced-rate financing to spur the sales increase. The Lexus RX has been one of their best sellers so far this year. The 2010 Lexus RX 350 was honored with the Top Safety Pick Award by the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the excellent protection that the luxury SUV provides its riders.
This may have been a major factor when Chicago consumers chose the Chicago Lexus RX as one of the top luxury family vehicles. The RX isn’t the only thing worth checking out at your Lexus dealer, the Chicago Lexus GX also has plenty to brag about! According to Kelly Blue Book “the GX 470 is expected to retain a high resale value, holding 68% of its purchase price at 24-months and an amazing 56% at 48 months. That’s far better than the Cadillac SRX, Lincoln Aviator, and Mercedes ML-class.” Word must be getting out on the Chicago Lexus GX because sales have more than tripled this year compared to last year. A lot of people worried that in this economic crisis luxury vehicle sales would decline considerably, but according to their sales numbers they are certainly holding their own! Not to mention with the Lexus GX starting at around $10,000 less than the comparable Mercedes, its no wonder Lexus is leading the way.
After recently test driving the Lexus RX myself, I am very impressed! With this vehicle, they really have thought of everything! It is the definition of luxury. I couldn’t believe the amount of cargo space and the overall sleek design. At first I was a little surprised that Lexus out-sold Mercedes, but after experiencing a Lexus first hand, it’s amazing they didn’t completely blow them out of the water!
