The eco-friendly products of a Lexus

May 20, 2010 Featured No Comments

Over the past couple of years, automakers have been working to make their cars environmentally friendly since consumers have been obsessed with going “green.” Every single auto maker has released at  least one type of hybrid model and now many automakers have announced that their number one focus will be releasing environmentally friendly cars. With so many “green” cars out there how do you pick which one is best for the environment? Well, if you’re looking for a car that is 85 percent recyclable or renewable and reduces 20 percent fewer carbon dioxide emissions over the life of the vehicle, you want the Lexus HS 250h, that is available at the Chicago Lexus RX dealer. If that Lexus model isn’t what your looking for, but you still want a “green” car look into a Lexus model, they plan to make all of their models 95 percent recyclable, which means the materials of the car are reusable in other applications or bio-degradable by the year 2015.

Lexus headquarters tells the Chicago Lexus ES dealer that they are very close of reaching their goal of having their models 95% recyclable because of the recent discovery of Eco-Plastic, which is a plant-based material that will be used to cover the interior and luggage areas. Eco-plastic is made up of Kenaf, a fibrous member of the hibiscus family and has components that come from sugar cane and sweet potatoes. The HS 250h is currently the only model that is fitted with this Eco-plastic, but soon all Lexus models will feature Eco-plastic.

Eco-plastic is Lexus’ current breakthrough with reaching their goal, but it’s definitely not their first. Over the past couple of years, they have created recyclable materials and an energy-saving process that are now featured on many of their Lexus models. Lexus headquarters tells the Chicago Lexus RX dealer that one of the first things that they have created was a process called, seat foam recycling. Seat foam recycling takes the excess foam that is generated when seats are manufactured, captures it in the Lexus factory, and is taken to create a high-quality sound-reducing material. The second thing that Lexus has created is LED lighting technology, LED lights produce less heat, which means less demand on the engine to maintain the battery charge. The third thing that Lexus has created is Electronic Power Steering, which decreases drain on the engine and eliminates the need for petroleum-based hydraulic fluid.

Based on the progress that Lexus headquarters has made so far in creating new environmentally friendly technologies and processes the Chicago Lexus ES dealer thinks that the best choice for an all-around “green” car is obviously a Lexus.
